Pongal is one of the most popular harvest festivals celebrated in Tamil Nadu, marking the beginning of the sun's northward trajectory to the equinox. During this joyous time, farmers give thanks to both Sun God and Lord Indra for their bountiful yields. Special dishes such as Pongal, Shakkara Pongal, and offerings of sugarcane are prepared alongside a puja held to honor Sun god. This festival traditionally lasts four days, starting on 13th January with Bhogi – a time when people discard old belongings for new ones as a reminder that embracing change is essential for growth.
